This Thursday July 4th all regular classes will be cancelled. We will have a No Gi Marathon Roll from 12-1. Be on time and ready to do all the rounds before you begin your celebrations!

We are pleased to announce we will have a new schedule in the evenings starting Monday, May 13. We will be adding a few new classes - No Gi Fundamentals I and No Gi Fundamentals II on Mondays and No Gi Fundamentals I and Sparring on Wednesdays. We also now have a competition class on Saturdays from 1-3. Please find our new schedule below. We hope to train with you soon!
A few weeks ago the team took 14 competitors to the US Grappling Richmond tournament. We are pleased to say we came back with several silver and bronze medals as well as five golds. Despite having less competitors total than many teams had medalists, we were able to secure third place in adult team and school points. Congratulations to all our competitors!
We will be closed this Saturday 4/27 as we will all be at the US Grappling tournament. Come out and support the competitors while watching some great Jiu Jitsu! Next week we will be back to our regular schedule.
Upstream competitors have had a great run so far this year. Seph and Phil both won their hard fought Toro Cup matches. Shane and Seph both medalled at the IBJJF DC Open, taking home Bronze in Male Adult Blue Belt Heavy Weight and Gold in Black Belt Masters 2 Light Weight. Congratulations to everyone! We are all training hard in preparation for US Grappling Richmond on April 27.

Tomorrow from 12-3 Lucas Lepri Brown Belt Dean Lewis will be teaching a seminar at Upstream. It is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. This seminar will be in the gi and will certainly be filled with a lot of great details we can all use. Hope to see everyone there!
In just a few weeks, Upstream BJJ will be hosting a workshop with Lucas Lepri Brown Belt Dean Lewis. Dean is a multiple time No Gi Pan Am Champion, a No Gi World Champion at Purple Belt and a Pan Am Silver Medalist at Brown Belt. We are excited to learn from Dean! It will be $25 for members and $30 for non-members. More information to come!
We will not have women’s class this Saturday 2/16/19 as our women’s instructor will be out of town for a tournament. We will be back on schedule the following Saturday. Open mat will be on as usual from 12-2.
This February, ADCC Champion and grappling phenom JT Torres will be teaching a seminar in Raleigh. This seminar is organized by Roll Forever, an organization that promotes Jiu Jitsu in the region, sponsors athletes and puts on high quality seminars with elite athletes in Virginia and North Carolina. Upstream BJJ is raffling off one spot at this amazing seminar. Raffle tickets are $5 and purchase is exclusive to Upstream students. We hope to see everyone there! We never miss an opportunity to learn from the best.
For the month of January, Upstream is offering a 12 class intro block for only $60! This block is for those totally new to BJJ who want to test the waters and see how training fits into their lives. The first women’s class of 2019 will be Saturday, January 12. We will not have women’s class Saturday January 5. We look forward to starting another productive year of training and continuing to build up a strong women’s team! Get in touch with us if you are interested in our women’s only program. Our Saturday classes are open to ages 12 and up.
All teams and affiliations are welcome to join us this Monday 12/31 for the last rolls of the year! Upstream BJJ will be hosting an open mat from 12-2 pm. Yesterday 12/20, Upstream BJJ head coach Seph Smith had the pleasure of moving two students up in rank - Jacob to blue belt and Phil to purple belt. Both of these students have been strong forces on the local competition scene as well in IBJJF tournaments. We are so proud of their hard work and they have definitely earned these new belts!
